Abstract
The objective of the proposed Regulation is to establish a legal framework for evaluating correct application of the Schengen acquis. This evaluation mechanism is designed to maintain mutual trust between Member States in their capacity to apply, effectively and
efficiently, the accompanying measures making it possible to maintain an area without internal borders.
The overall objectives of the new mechanism should be to ensure transparent, effective and consistent implementation of the Schengen acquis, while also reflecting the changes in the legal situation after integration of the Schengen acquis into the framework of the European
Union.
