The EU and Morocco have had close relations for a number of years now. This is reflected in the ‘advanced status’ which that relationship has formally attained. It is therefore especially gratifying to see that Morocco has taken what are, in effect, the most serious steps in the region so far to boost the voice of civil society in national policy-making with the creation of the ESC. This is a considerable achievement.
