This workshop is being organised as part of the EU-China Mayors’ Forum which is taking place in the context of the EU-China Urbanization Partnership. The Forum will take place back-to-back with the 8th EU-China Summit to be held in Brussels on 20 September 2012. The aim of the EU-China Urbanization Partnership is to find solutions to the challenges of urbanisation. Europe is one of the most urbanized continents of the world with more than two thirds of the European population living in cities. China is still experiencing an unprecedented rate of urbanization that could well bring its urban population from the current 47, 5% to 60% of the total population by 2030. The focus of this first EU-China Urbanization Partnership meeting in Brussels is on sharing experiences and ideas on how to make urban development sustainable and socially inclusive.
