This article pretty well sums up my thoughts on the impact membership of the E.U has had on our own democracy. However, I do sense that the entanglement is such that, attempts to reduce the ties are impossible without causing great changes to our society. Changes that are so difficult to predict we wouldn't know whether we will be left in a worse position as, one thing is certain though, there is no simply turning back the clock to pre-E.U.days.

Thank you for posting the link to this newsletter! I found it a little short albeit a good resource to see what Europe's businesses are working on Europe-wide.

The EUSSR's days are numbered anyway so no point getting too pissed off...

I have no problem with HRH talking to flowers - in fact I occasionally tell mine that if they don't get growing they are off to the dump.

However, I do wish he would stick to things about which he knows something. The CO2 stuff and climate change garbage he keeps spouting is indescribably ignorant. Surely, with his income, he could actually get some advisors who might give him accurate information. Sir J Porritt Bt and his Malthusian ideas is not a scientist - merely an environmentalist - and another ignorant one at that.

Interestingly, cars are cutting carbon dioxide emissions faster than expected! Of the world's 14 largest auto makers, Japan's Toyota Motor Corp and Suzuki Motor Corp cut their emissions at the fasted rate in 2009, slashing 10 per cent and 9.1 per cent off year-earlier levels.

No comments? I wonder why. Perhaps because Mr Barroso makes no comment of any import.

The only element that comes over in this short speech is self (EU) congratulatory diatribe which is widely recognised by the masses I am sure, that he and his cohorts are far removed from reality and wish to remain so, and that his comment that the general public need to be "kept on our side" is an oxymoron. Most are not on your side, not any more Mr. Barroso.

Why does having two candidates necessarily mean war is declared?
I mean when a party leader is elected (rather than appointed / Gordon Brown for example) it suggests that the result is what the party membership want (I still exclude the Labour Party from these deliberations).

So lets have a debate, lets have that discussion, good. But that dopesn't mean that things are nasty, far from it.

When you say FFS UKIP, I wonder what you could possibly be suggesting. How would you go about getting a new leader, wait for him or her to appear fully clothed from Lord Pearson's thing?

The receipt of central government funds (taxpayers money) is not the only criteria to define a quango.

Unless your 'membership' are using their own money or private donations, I would suggest that both their time and any resources are paid for by local taxpayers, as are any contributions or fees from members to the Association.

Therefore you are a quango.

Shouldn't that be a question you ask at the next LPUK meeting rather than here?

Let us know how it goes.

By the way, I approved your comment just now, Andrew. :) As you'd know, it's lovely to have him sign but you ask the question in your comment about the LPUK "leadership", not the PPCs. The leadership remains as intransigent as before ... so far ... as with all the parties.

I suppose all we can do is keep showing people why it's necessary and the rest is up to them. I see us as one small part of the whole - there are many groups with the facts and figures to back it up, e.g. Bruges, TPA, EU Referendum and others, before Carswell and Hannan are mentioned.

Then there is UKIP after that. One thing being lost in all this is that we are still fellow-countrymen, still on the same side in many areas - just not in this.

In the interests of balance, for others, let me say here that LPUK policy is withdrawal from the EU. Being Libertarian, they have greater freedom to align themselves as they wish. I hope that represents it correctly.
