This site contains data which falls under the remit of the Data Protection Act in the UK.
This data is limited to the names, telephone numbers, Web addresses and Emails of Prospective Parliamentary Candidates (PPC) for 2010 or to put in clear text those standing to be an MP at the next elections sometime in 2010. No data on anyone else is kept here nor is any other data kept about the PPCs.
However, as we are a not for profit organisation, a grassroots pressure group, and this data is freely available on the Internet and in print supplied by the data subjects themselves we believe it is classed as public information and we do not need to register with the DPA and pay the tax.
In saying that, we do believe in personal rights and so we can confirm that we adhere to the 8 principles of the DPA, which are as follows.
That the data is ;
1) Fairly and lawfully processed
– We are using this data to simply enable UK citizens to easily correspond to any PPC in the database.
2) Processed for limited purposes
– For the contact information and the Candidates responses to contact.
3) Adequate, relevant and not excessive
– Telephone numbers, Emails and URLS to enable calls to the PPC, Emails to the PPC and web pages to access PPC clinics and contact forms and see any relevant PPC engagements.
4) Accurate and up to date
– As accurate as we can and we have provided a facility for errors to be corrected.
5) Not kept for longer than is necessary
– The data will be removed, leaving just the names and the pledges, after the next election.
6) Processed in line with your rights
– The rights are to have the data corrected or removed. A facility has been provided to enable those requests.
7) Secure
– The data is kept at the same level of security as the lowest security on the raw data available.
8) Not transferred to other countries without adequate protection
– The database is hosted in the UK only but can be read worldwide as can the raw data provided by the data subjects themselves.
For full details of the DPA the Information Commissioner’s Office can be found here.
Therefore, if you are a PPC and your name is on this database and you want your data to be amended or removed then simply EMail us and we will perform the necessary act. If your data is removed then we will retain your name only and provide a link to the publicly available contact information on the Internet instead of holding that information ourselves.
